Throughout the course of this project we identified models, charter schools, research and other reform support organizations (RSOs) working to reform the nation’s high schools. We decided to share these resources with you.

Before you use the database, please read the following cautions:

  • Our database of reform support organizations is not exhaustive. There are many other organizations working to improve the education of students in grades 9-12.

  • We organized the organizations by the states in which they are currently working. Some organizations are classified in a separate category: these organizations are nationally-based or do not specify where they work. We used the organization’s websites to gather this information (last updated January 26, 2009). If the website was outdated, incorrect, or missing this information, so is our database. If you work for an organization and see an error, please e-mail highschooltoolkit@aed.org.

  • It is important to note that many organizations are looking to expand and will work in any state, district, or school interested in contracting their organization. If an organization is not listed under your state, don’t preclude it from your search: Contact the organization directly to see if it’s willing to work with you.

  • Inclusion of a RSO in this database is NOT an endorsement of its products, services, or reform model or methods. We encourage you to research each organization thoroughly before contacting it for goods or services.

  • Organizations are classified in one of three categories: 1) funders and general support, 2) research and evaluation, 3) models, technical assistance and other. Some organizations fall into more than one category. In this case, we chose the category that best describes the organization – what it is most known for, has the most experience in, and so forth. In cases where we could not make this determination, the organization was placed in the “other” category.
