Community Involvement
Family Involvement
Adolescents need adults engaged in their lives and to actively support their transition into adulthood. Yet, high school is a time when many families pull back, and community organizations often step in only after students get into trouble. The modules in this section offer strategic approaches to engaging families and community members in high schools. The research clearly illustrates the importance of family involvement on students’ educational outcomes. The family involvement module provides ideas on how to engage all families, including those that are harder to reach (e.g., non-English speakers). The community partnership module examines best practices on engaging businesses, postsecondary institutions, and other members of the community in a joint mission to provide students a college preparatory curriculum with real-world connections.
