|  COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Community involvement refers to community participation in district or school decision-making, activities and programming, for the purpose of creating better outcomes for students.[i]

[i] Other language used interchangeably with “community involvement” includes “community partnerships” and “school-family-community partnerships.”  Community involvement includes family involvement. Family involvement is listed in a separate module because the nature of a family’s relationship with a child affects (usually broadens) the type and breadth of school activities (e.g., homework help, attending student conferences) contributed. However, parents, sisters, brothers, and other family members can also contribute to the school as community members, volunteering their expertise to serve on boards, serving as mentors, offering internships, and so forth.
